I'm not really a big fan of these awards since I object to the efforts made to institutionalize divisions in the US which I don't think really exist, and since I don't happen to believe that very many, if any, of these people qualify as "leftist." For one thing, they support the Democratic party, which is awfully right-wing these days, although they wish to deny it. But I do appreciate all of the work they put into it.

Iraqi veterans lead march to New Orleans.
Empire Burlesque and the Guardian discuss the recent march to New Orleans led by a group of angry veterans of the war.
"If you start looking at them as humans, and stuff like that, then how are you going to kill them?" So says Jody Casey, a U.S. soldier who had just left military service and almost immediately joined a remarkable march of atonement, protest and patriotism led by Iraq Veterans Against the War, walking 130 miles from Mobile to New Orleans along with military families and survivors.
An historic march, and right through the heart of the old red states too.
Mixed berry muffins.
If I'm going to get back into blogging, I think I better focus more on the good things, such as cooking, and less on the political stuff. Have to keep my blood pressure under control. If you're a food fan, the Food Blog has an enormous list of food related web sites, hundreds of them from all over the world. There's also an entry with some favorites, such as the Exploring the Silver Spoon, supposedly the bible of Italian cooking, and Here and There, all about chocolate, cooking and gardening. In Bribe Me With A Muffin, out of Boston, there was this wonderfully sounding mixed berry muffin recipe. I used to make muffins a lot but haven't for a while. Will have to get back into it. They're very easy and quick to make, and quite delicious.
End of entries. ( ) ( )
